So I went to www.goodreads.com to sign up and let people know what books I am reading as well as the book I have written, and low and behold someone was reading my book. It was a wonderful surprise. I share this good news with you and encourage you to share your good news with me!

FYI I am currently reading Bread Alone by Judi Hendricks. Wealthy wife gets dumped by wealthy husband, she is not wealthy anymore and must find a job. She starts work in a bakery and recreates her life. Funny, upbeat and sometimes sad.

Yup, Union Square here I come!

Resource Girl will be in Union Square, when weather permits, for the month of June.

She (that would be me) will be selling her book and giving free advice.

While selling my book last year at The Market NYC I met a woman who runs shopping tours. She takes you all around the town in search of the best deals. Check out www.shopgotham.com to find out when she has her next tour.

This is a great way to keep your friends and relatives happy and busy if they have to come to New York City and you are working.

When I think of one type of reader I wish to help, I envision the young singer wondering how she is going to get on Broadway, working at a restaraunt, working hard, running to and fro, here and there, not breathing and then she stops pauses, reads this and walks herself gently to a yoga class where she re-visits her goals in a calm and safe place.

This is one of my favorite free activities in New York City. Starting June the 4th and running until September the 24th, every Wednesday (weather permitting) you can do free yoga on the boardwalk of Riverside Park at 6:30pm. Go to http://nycgovparks.org if you need more information.

Free Yoga every Sunday night at 8pm at LuluLemon Athletica. They have mats.

Yoga to the People. It has a suggested donation of 10 dollars but you do not have to pay. They are open to all levels of people and you can wear whatever comfortable clothes that you have.

This is one I have to try YogaLaff. www.yogalaff.com. My friend and comic www.donnaeast.com tells me laughter is the best medicine.

To see an example of pownce to to www.pownce.com/resourcegirl/. I am finding that facebook is becoming very cluttered and I like having different social networking sites for different things. Right now with pownce I chose a photographer. I might choose some other photographers and keep pownce just for that.

Researching the sites has helped me the ways that can find your niche is this world. You could have personal networking sites to share pics and videos with friends, you could have sites that are just related to your work and you could have sites that are just things that you like for no good reason other than you like the things you choose there. I remember learning that someone collected cereal boxes. I bet someone could have a social media site dedicated to that.

If you have been to my site before, awesome, if not I just wanted to let you know it is a site to help you live better in New York City, but hopefully what I am writing will help you live better wherever you happen to be. Currently I am focusing on social networking sites because I see the trend is VERY useful for the artist on a budget. It is the best way to set up a presence on the internet for free.

So if you were twittering right now, I would ask you “What are you doing?”. Right now I am going to create a newsletter using constant contact.

Today I found a resource www.geteventjobs.com. I am very excited to learn about this resource as I will be getting back to work in a week.

The Resource Girl bounces around facebook, myspace, twitter, pownce, linkedin and more, reaching out to artists, promoting her book, seeking new ideas and finding people to interview. She is checking out Peanut Butter Media and Webpro News to see what is happening that is new. The more you read, the more you learn that social media is exploding. She shares with you, yes that would be me, what she does in hopes of inspiring you with ideas for what you can do to promote yourself, your book, your cd, your film, your portfolio or whatever else you may need to promote.

I do hope though that you spend time with real life people. While on vacation this week we met a really sweet couple who had a three year old daughter. It was lovely to spend time with people, in person, not just on the computer.

Yes, back to work I go. Seeking promotions and tradeshows to do in June, July and August. If you have any work available, you know where to find me and if I have any work available I will be posting some jobs here. I am still seeking an assistant for the summer to help me with research and tweaking of the social networking sites that I am currently using, as well as the new ones I will find. Seeking tech savvy, on the cutting edge, with patience person who is willing to work on a project basis.

(This was a last minute package on Expedia. Air, hotel, food, all inclusive for about $800 per person. We looked for about 3 days straight before we found the most economic package. We also consulted www.tripadvisor.com to get the truth from customers. There are real comments and photos from guests.)

I can’t believe I am actually going to do this, but for one week I am going to take a real vacation. Many think because I don’t have a job full time that I don’t work, but the reality is that I am working all the time. I do promotions. I write for my site. Researching social media and networking has become my full time passion and obsession. I am twittering, powncing (that is not a typo, it is spelled www.pownce.com) and hopefully soon I will be on the road to Jaiku. They told me I have to wait, so I am waiting.

Although I am enjoying the promotion of my book on the internet, I decided (well let’s just say my boyfriend decided) it is time to take a real break. So for one week I will not be checking my e-mail and I won’t be posting anything.

I find that when we take time to reflect on what we have done, it is a time to encourage ourselves. Sometimes are so busy doing, that we lose sight of all that we have done. I find when things are not going the way I would like them, it is good to take a moment to reflect on what has worked.

This slideshow is a time for me to reflect on what has work and what I have done, in order to encourage me with the next step. The next step is to do a new edition and have it ready by September.

If you are an actor/dancer/singer/musician/visual artist/model/film maker, then you know the real challenge is to let people know what you do and to find people with who you can collaborate. Today I uploaded pictures that show my journey with my book. Sharing this with you is to share with you what you can do for yourself.  I keep learning about new ways to promote you on the web. The cool thing is that you don’t have to think “I have to find a gallery in NYC or a film to do here, I might just be exhibiting on a site in India or Greenland??? Who knows…that is the excitement of the global economy. Opportunity is everywhere.
